About me

My Coaching Practice

Having engaged in my own journey of growth and transformation (shared below), I am now coaching other seekers and searchers using what I regard as one of the most innovative and growth-oriented coaching methodologies in existence – Integral Coaching. Offering a wholistic approach to how human beings grow, develop and transform, I help others along their own roads of transformation and actualization.

Speaking metaphorically, I think of the coaching I do as akin to alchemists of legend who created gold from common elements. I help clients to create their gold, almost magically, from the elements that are already within them. Yet, the transformation that will happen within them won’t be magic, but the result of honest and solid work that clients will do in the weeks we work together. It is work that will always be compassionate, honest and down-to-earth. That is my promise.

My Journey

Both my interest in human development and my path to life coaching have their roots in my own journey of growth and transformation.

That journey didn’t really begin until I was well into my twenties. You could say I was a ‘late bloomer’. What started my growth journey was 3-years of psychotherapy. That got the transformational wheels beginning to roll for me, ushering in what was an ‘exponential’ decade of growth. These years saw me move from rural New Mexico to Scotland, come out of the closet as a Gay man, and eventually move to Washington DC to find a community of friends and a life-partner of now 30-years.

In Washington, DC, I moved forward in both career and personal life. I fulfilled a lifelong interest in politics working first with a Congressman and later as a Presidential appointee at a U.S. Cabinet-level Department. On the personal front, I continued therapy, both group and personal, commenced living with my life partner (Damien) and otherwise expanded frontiers, living for a time on assignment in Brussels, Belgium. Damien and I also purchased a second home in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

But then, it all slowed down for me. It was as if I’d entered a career and personal cul-de-sac. I became stuck, significantly stuck. Looking back on it, I’d clearly quit growing and had lost touch with the things that gave me energy, like working for a better world and pushing my own frontiers. I was in this place for about a decade.

In 2010, I realized that something had to change and I did something radical for me. I quit my job with no end-point in sight, only a realization that I had to start growing again. Looking back, I can say it was partly spiritual and partly the realization that there was something more in life that I yet needed to do. Joseph Campbell might call it ‘finding my bliss’. The bottom line was there were things I needed to figure out and explore. And so I did.

The bullets in the box below fill some details of the last 7-year growth journey. Suffice it to say the growth hasn’t been as meteoric as it was in my 20s and 30s, but I can say it has been far deeper and more foundational. I feel more grounded than I’ve ever been in body, mind and spirit. I feel I’m living each day more in the flow of life, no longer against it.

I’ve also discovered that transformation doesn’t have endpoints. The work of transformation is about continuing to grow and develop and in so doing, to live to our fullest, always evolving, potential.

And so, I’m now working with others, such as you, as an Integral Professional Life Coach. It is coaching I regard as the most dynamic and insightful coaching methodology in existence for human transformation.
